Local-first · No bank passwords

Stay on top of your money — not buried in spreadsheets.

Nixus automates the upkeep: upload a credit card statement, get categorized expenses, see your next move. Budget, TFSA, RRSP, net worth — on your machine, without Plaid.

Download started

When macOS shows "unidentified developer," open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Normal for apps outside the Mac App Store.

  • Your records stay on your machine

Budgets, transactions and balances live in a local database. No copy leaves it unless you turn on sync.

  • No bank passwords, ever

No Plaid, no screen-scraping. You upload a statement instead.

  • Open source

The code that handles your finances is public, so none of this has to be taken on faith.

    Read the source
  • macOS and Windows

macOS and Windows, in English or French, with automatic updates and backup built in.

Why Nixus

Rearview apps show your money. Nixus helps you stay on top of it.

Built for people who already track their own finances and won't hand bank credentials to a cloud service to do it.

  • Automation without bank access

Upload screenshots or PDFs — no Plaid, no passwords. AI extracts and categorizes in seconds.

Most alternatives automate by asking for your bank login. Nixus automates the part that was actually tedious instead.

  • Next action, not another chart

Emergency fund runway, savings capacity, and one clear priority — not just dashboards.

A chart tells you what happened. Nixus tells you what to do about it.

  • One app for life upkeep

Finance and car maintenance today — same shell, same local data. More modules over time.

One install, one set of data, one place to look — not a separate app per responsibility.

How it works

Three steps. About five minutes, every other week.

The whole routine, even if you have never kept a budget.

  1. Upload a statement

Screenshot your credit card statement, or save it as a PDF, and drop it into Nixus.

    No bank login required.

  2. Let it sort itself out

Nixus reads the statement, pulls out each transaction, and files it into a category — remembering your corrections for next time.

    Usually a few seconds.

  3. See where you stand

Scan what came in, fix anything that landed wrong, and your budget, cash flow, and net worth are already current.

Then close it and get on with your day.

The product

Four questions, in the order you'd actually ask them.

Four stages, each a real screen you can open today — not a roadmap promise.

  1. 01OrganizeWhere is everything?
  2. 02UnderstandWhere do I stand?
  3. 03GuideWhat should I focus on?
  4. 04AutomateWhat can Nixus handle?
  1. 01 Organize

Everything in one place, without a bank password.

Upload a credit card statement as a screenshot or a PDF. Accounts, investments and the things you own go in once and stay current from there.

    • No Plaid, no bank login, and no waiting for a broken connection to come back.
    • Chequing, credit cards, savings, TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, non-registered and crypto — in CAD or USD, in one list.
    • A house, a car, a business stake — the parts of your net worth a budgeting app usually ignores.
Nixus accounts view listing balances across account types with an allocation breakdown
Every account and asset in one view, with allocation by account type.
  2. 02 Understand

The whole answer on one screen.

Everything here is calculated from your own records — no estimates, and no AI guessing at your balance.

    • Monthly budgets with category groups, and a clear read on what's left before the month ends.
    • Income recorded alongside expenses, so "can I afford this" has an actual answer.
    • Net worth history split by cash, housing, crypto, TFSA and RRSP — not one blended line.

The finance dashboard — budget, cash flow, and net worth together.
  3. 03 Guide

A straight answer, in plain language.

Ask what you would ask a friend who happened to know all your numbers. Nixus answers from your actual data and shows you how it got there.

    • Emergency-fund runway, savings rate, and one priority action — rule-based, so the same numbers always give the same answer.
    • "Can I afford a $40k car?" "Where did the extra $600 go last month?" Asked normally, answered from your data.
    • Nothing is edited behind your back — every proposed change waits for you.
Nixus Budget Helper answering "Can I afford a $40k car?" with a snapshot of the user's accounts, the trade-offs of paying cash or financing, and a recommendation
Ask a question in plain language; the answer uses your real numbers.
  4. 04 Automate

The upkeep that made you quit last time.

The work that killed your spreadsheet is the work Nixus is built to absorb.

    • Rent, insurance, subscriptions — set the template once and each month fills itself in.
    • Every vehicle gets a maintenance schedule and a nudge before service is overdue, not after.
    • Automatic updates and local backup and restore, so maintaining the tool isn't another chore.

See it work

A quick look inside Nixus.

A statement import, your budget, spending trends and what to do next — recorded with demo data.

Everything else

The rest of what's inside.

Everything a spreadsheet does, and the parts it never could.

  • Document Automation

CC screenshots or PDFs → categorized expenses. No bank sync required.

  • Financial Health

Runway, savings rate, and one priority action — rule-based, not guesswork.

  • Budget Builder

Monthly budgets with category groups. See where you stand at a glance.

  • Canadian Accounts

Chequing, credit cards, TFSA, RRSP, USD — one view built for Canada.

  • Net Worth History

Track cash, housing, crypto, and investments over time — by category.

  • AI Copilot

Ask in plain language. Proposed changes wait for your confirmation.

  • Garage Module

Maintenance schedules, service history, and due dates for every vehicle.

  • Local-First Privacy

SQLite on your machine. Open source. Nothing leaves it unless you ask — AI, or sync you turn on.

Your data

Local-first, stated precisely.

Your financial records are on your computer, not ours. Two things can leave it, and both are off until you turn them on.

Stays on your machine

  • Budgets, transactions, accounts, income, assets, net worth history, vehicles and service records — in a local database on your device.
  • Any AI provider credentials you enter, held in your operating system's keychain and never transmitted to Nixus.
  • Everything except the AI features works with no network connection at all.
  • AI features

    Opt-in

When you run an import or ask the AI a question, that one request's content is sent for processing — straight to your own provider using your credentials, or through Nixus to AWS Bedrock on a premium account. There's no background transmission, and the rest of the app works without it.

  • Multi-device sync

    Opt-in

If you want the same records on a second computer, a copy is stored in Nixus-operated storage on AWS. It's encrypted in transit and at rest, but not end-to-end encrypted in this version — so a Nixus administrator could technically read it. Leave sync off and no copy leaves your machine.

Honestly

What Nixus is — and isn't.

You are about to install an alpha app and point it at your finances. Decide before you spend the time.

What it is

  • A replacement for the personal-finance spreadsheet you've been maintaining by hand.
  • A desktop app that keeps your records on your own computer.
  • A way to automate statement entry without giving any service your bank login.
  • Built around Canadian accounts — TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, with CAD and USD side by side.

What it isn't — yet

  • No bank connection — you upload credit card statements manually (screenshot or PDF).
  • Desktop only — macOS and Windows. No mobile app yet.
  • No household sharing yet — linking Nixus Cloud profiles into a household is coming.
  • A finished product — it's an alpha, so expect changes between releases and the odd bug.
  • Professional advice — Nixus tracks your numbers but doesn't replace a tax, legal, or investment professional.

Alpha

Become a Nixus Founding User

A small group of early users gets access while Nixus is still taking shape — and a direct line to what gets built next.

It's an especially good match if you keep any of this in Excel or Google Sheets today:

  • Expenses and budgets
  • Net worth
  • Investments
  • Savings
  • Financial goals

In return I ask for candid feedback — the friction and the doubts, not just the compliments.
